2007 Mission Trip

Monday-Tuesday-Wednesday-Thursday

"Honey, I just want you to know it is not gonna be an easy day today."

Look at the crowd that showed up to build some houses. People were from CA, IO, MS, TX, CO and many other states from around the nation. Did I mention Tennessee!!!

"I want you to move this pile of boards over to that pile of boards! Then we might move it back. I just wanted to start with the easy stuff first!"

This is what our job site looked like when we arrived this morning. Wait until you see what we can do with it. We will call this phase 1.

Ms. Dana, you look a little hot under the chin there.

Yes!!! That is a sledge hammer operator and the required supervision that is needed for proper operation.

Ivy is really debating whether to use the porta potty or not.

They actually kept this wheelbarrow moving all day long with tons of scraps. Everyhing from scrap wood to pieces of concrete. They are pooped!

We worked primarliy on installing sub-flooring on 2 homes today.

Hey check out my profile. I kinda look like Horatio Kain off of CSI-Miami don't I? Kinda?

"Here, you hold the nail right there and I will hammer it. No, really!"

"Hey Cory, is that nail crooked or is it my head!"

"Ouchy, I bit my tongue!"

Hey Will, you might need a step-ladder son!

"I am the official sledge hammer toter!"

"Let's see! Nail or thumb? Nail or thumb?"

How many hammers can you count in this picture? That poor nail never had a chance.

These folks are actually installing 2 x 10 floor joist.

That wheel barrow went back and forth, back and forth all day!

This was what our job site looked like when we first got there.

This is what our job site looked like when we got through on Monday. Our team worked primarily on this floor.

We started building 2 x 4 corners, wall joints and headers. We did this all day. Our teens hammered nails more today than they probably have in the entire life.

Will and JoAnn Horton, mother and son serving the Lord together on missions in New Orleans

Jayda Worrell hammering away!

Cory Crowell hammering away!

Bro. David gulping away! (I drank my gallon of water today and poured another 1/2 gallon down my shirt.)

Dusty Crowell was manning the chop saw. He cut pieces to go in the corner studs.

Jorgianna Morton has this nail licked.

Timmy Moore hammering his 1000th nail.

Brianna Winstead is getting this one lined up to hammer.

Brianna Winstead is ready to hammer as Rachel O'Steen gives everything one last look over.

Monday: This is what we saw when we first arrived.

Tuesday: This was what we accomplished working Monday.

Wednesday: This is what we were able to do by the end of the day on Wednesday.

Our morning pep talk.

If everything looks blurry it is because no one was awake yet.

It is a small world. That fellow in the orange Tennessee cap is Bro. Bill Sims, former pastor of First Baptist Church in Union City. He is now pastoring in Albany, GA.

We are taking our first wall to be put up.

Ivy got so excited about her new hammering skills, she was hammering nails into everything.

Brianna started hammering nails into everything too. I think it may have been the heat getting to them.

They are constructing one of the many walls.

I told you the heat was making them do strange things.

You remember those 1000 nails that Timmy hammered in? Well, he ended up having to pull some of them back out.

Timmy's nails.

Barbara O'Steen knows how to work that hammer.

One of many blisters from hammering. That is Jayda's finger. She always tries to be first in the injury category.

This was our first produced interior wall. Someday a picture could hang on this wall.

Rachel O'Steen is hammering away.

It didn't take Dana long to show her construction expertise. She helped with some of the room layouts.

Watch out Melinda, Randy really likes that power saw.

Timmy made a new friend. He lives in one of the Habitat Homes that had already been built. He came out to help us build today.

Our summer missionary hammered a few nails in today.

Motivation to complete a floor was the new found shade.

Brianna found a moment out of the hot sun.

This was one of our super exterior walls with 2 windows. Everything you see here, our teens built from scratch. They had a pile of 2 x 4's, a 2 x 6 and a bucket of nails. They did good!

These guys produced this interior wall in about 10 minutes.

TEAM Work! You would not believe how much lumber our team toted around the job site.

"Hey Melinda, I really did like that power saw!"

The exterior walls were up and they were starting to put up the interior walls up by the end of the day.

Our team built all these interior walls!!!

We have every size you can imagine.

This is the very last wall for the house we were working on. It is a 2 x 6 plumbing wall. Our team had it built from scratch in about 7 minutes.

Hey! Look! We all used hammers today and we still have our thumbs.

Hey Taylor, say HI to mom. Look mom, she is working hard.

The heat was making them do strange things.

This is what those nails looked like when Charli finished chewing on them.

This shot shows all the interior walls for the 2nd house, corner exterior walls already installed on 2nd house, all exterior walls and some interior walls installed on 1st house.

Here is our mission team. They built all these interior walls in the 1st house.

These carpenters are checking out their handy work.

Rooms in the 1st house.

The hallway in the 1st house.

These are exterior walls that our team built. They are ready to be lifted into place on the 2nd house.

Another shot of interior walls.

One of our wall teams.

Another wall team.

Ms. Dana would do anything for a Diet Dr. Pepper!

Some of our friendly carpenters.

Can we build it?

Yes we can!

Look at the power to hammer in those arms.

This truck brought some much needed excitement this morning.

We had 3 wall building stations.

That's a great looking wall.

Jorgianna took a swing at the hammering.

Here is a good shot of our 3 wall building work stations.

Jason says, "it's hammer time!"

AB says, "let's get to driving nails!"

Shade is a very valuable commodity at the work site.

Jimmy is a working man!

A shot of all the work that our team has done.

"Melinda, only 10 payments of $29.95 and I can build you a new home, with my new saw."

OOH! It's a lizard or is that what an alligator looks like?

An appreciation picture for Kohler, who donated $400 to this trip.

A job well done today!

Bro. David worked hard too. This is what his hammer looked like by the end of the day.

Monday

Tuesday

Wednesday

Thursday: This is a picture of all that our group accomplished in 4 days. It is really amazing. You can't even see all the interior walls that have already been installed in the 1st house.
